Before paying for the higher grade.
You’ve found the same card in PSA 9 and PSA 10. The higher grade costs more. What should you examine before deciding?
The comparison
Match the player, year, set, parallel and card number. Compare PSA with PSA. A different grading company adds another variable.
The evidence
Research completed transactions for each grade separately. Record their dates, sample sizes and ranges. One old sale in one grade and a recent sale in the other do not establish a reliable grade premium.
The tradeoff
Decide what the higher grade adds to your collecting experience. If you expect to sell, account for actual trading activity and selling costs. A higher grade does not automatically make the premium reasonable.
